What an amazing race for Maria Hernandez. who finished 9th in the Division 1 CIF State Cross Country Championships! If she didn’t already know it, Maria Hernandez (11), Santa Ana High’s cross country phenom, is now fully aware of her amazing potential going into her senior year next year.
Maria had to race through the CIF SS Prelims to qualify for the CIF SS Finals, where she finished 9th to be the first ever Santa Ana High School female cross country runner to qualify for the State meet. But Maria didn’t settle for qualifying; rather, she stepped up big time last Saturday, November 24 to challenge the top runners throughout the entire State. Maria jumped out front right away and led the pack for the first mile and a half (see video link below). She ran an amazing race that can be described as daringly aggressive and determined, ultimately finishing in 9th place in the top tier Division 1. Not only did her finish earn her the honor of being recognized as an All-State Cross Country Runner, but her results at the State meet also give her the distinction of being the fastest runner in all of Orange County.
The entire Santa Ana High School community and alumni couldn’t be more proud of you Maria!!
