Multiple Teams · Santa Ana Wrestlers go undefeated at the OCWCA All-Star Meet

Wrestlers represent at the OCWCA All-Star MeetSome of the top wrestlers in Orange County battled it out for pre-season brag rights at Canyon High School Tuesday evening. Each year the Orange County Wrestling Coaches Association puts on the All-Star meet to show off returning talent and to raise money for awards and scholarships. The event showcased approximately 48 wrestlers, males and females, representing schools from all over Orange County. 4 Santa Ana wrestlers were invited to wrestle at this prestigious event. Jose Mata OCWCA All-StarThe Saints shined as they dominated their opponents.

Jose Mata took on Mahrad Reyhani of Aliso Niguel High School. After showing his skill in taking his opponent down several times, Mata finished the match by pinning Reyhani. 

Summer OCWCA All-StarAt 121 pounds for the girls, Summer-ray Baeza got a chance to avenge her 2-4 loss from last years CIF Championship 5/6 place match to Nicki Sudol of Yorba Linda High School. Sudol scored the first takedown in the first period and took the top position in the second. With the score still 2-0 Sudol, Baeza chose the neutral position in the third period. Baeza got a quick takedown to tie the match and with 7 seconds left on the clock scored the 2nd pin of the night for the Saints.

Onnalaya OCWCA All-StarOnnalaya Aguilera wrestled a very tough wrestler, Jayani Ballock from Foothill High School at 106 pounds. Aguilera started off the match with a 7-1 lead after a takedown and a throw to Ballock’s back. In the second period Ballock made her comeback putting Aguilera on her back for 3 points. In the 3rd period it was all Aguilera as she took Ballock down and finished the match with Ballock on her back. The final score 13-4.

Mayra Franco was all ready to wrestle the 235 pound weight class but due to an injury her opponent was not able to attend the event.

This is just a sample of what we have to expect from both boys and girls teams this year. The Boys Varsity start off the season on November 17 at Costa Mesa High School Wrestling Tournament. The girls Varsity kicks off their season at the Capistrano Valley Lady Big Kat Wrestling Tournament on November 17, wrestling starts at 9:30 AM.
